I recently sat down with Elizabeth in the sitting area of her northeast Tallahassee law office to chat for this magazine.
Her space mirrors her composed personality and is decorated with only a few of her many awards. Though she’s a familiar face in national media—from CNN to Fox and NewsMax—she describes herself as an introvert, and I can see why. She’s a good listener and does not waste or mince words. She demonstrates quiet confidence that comes from genuine expertise rather than a need for attention.
She welcomed me dressed in a modest matching green knit pant set, complemented by antique amethyst jewelry she bought at a local silent charity auction. She was cradling her late mother’s white chihuahua named Frida, whose pink-painted claws and matching blep would warm the coldest heart.
Her regular media appearances as a news commentator aren’t sought for personal recognition but emerge naturally from her role as an expert in immigration law.
Elizabeth’s personality perfectly suits her field, where fairness and impartiality are essential when American businesses’ success and people’s lives are at stake. Her expertise extends beyond individual immigration cases to helping companies maintain proper employment verification, ensuring businesses can hire legally while protecting themselves from potential penalties, while also assisting advanced STEM degree holders whose work is in the national interest to sponsor themselves for residency.
Elizabeth’s path to success showcases the American dream at its finest. Born in Brooklyn to a working-class Catholic family and raised primarily by her mother, grandmother, and Spanish-speaking grandfather, she learned the value of hard work from her mom, who commuted daily from New Jersey to Manhattan as a legal secretary. This start, combined with her stint in the Peace Corps as a Small Business Development Volunteer in Guatemala, where she improved her Spanish-speaking skills, gave Elizabeth a deep understanding of the challenges many immigrant and working families face—knowledge that would later inform her compassionate approach to immigration law and her steadfast focus on giving back to our country and community.
